Friends and Brethren all! May is set to be an exemplary month for Friendship Lodge! It’s not just every day we have the pleasure of hosting the Grand Master of Masons in Oregon. And so nine months ago when our Secretary asked me if I wanted the GM to visit I had only one word to answer – yes!

Quite a bit of business will be on the agenda this month, and we are lucky to enjoy the company of MWB. W. Myles McMillan to do it. Our evening will begin, as always, with a rich family supper in the dining hall at 6:30, with Lodge opening promptly at 7:30. Brother Eric Pease will be preparing a feast of a stuffed white fish with rice pilaf, green beans with toasted almonds, salad and fresh baked rolls; with an additional vegan option. And to tip things just over the edge, our Junior Warden has scheduled The Quadraphonnes to play an arrangement for us and our guests while we sup and rejoice in the familiar reunion with our dear friends and brothers, and their families.

In addition to enjoying more of Bro. Pease’s expert kitchen wizardry, we are looking forward to voting on several petitions while also examining Brother Quinn on his proficiency in the Master Mason degree. A resolution to amend our bylaws will come to the floor for debate and voting; and I know the Brethren are looking forward to the opportunity to discuss the Grand Lodge’s policies regarding anti-discrimination practices with the Grand Master himself.

We also eagerly anticipate our Masonic Education for the evening – Worshipful Brother Ken Hall of Sunnyside Lodge will be giving a talk on Masonic friendship and brotherly love. Though the lecture will be part of our private meeting, its content will serve as the meat of our traditional focussed conversation following the meeting, which is always open to the public. And of course, the Grand Master himself will take some moments to share some light and wisdom with us before we close out the night.

All in all the evening of May 2nd promises to be very bright indeed, and the Brothers of Friendship Masonic Lodge look forward to enjoying it with you!
